Have We Turned Our Backs on Israel?

More disturbing news today regarding the Obama Administration’s change in policy towards Israel. Prior to today, one could argue that we were simply pressuring Israel as we might with any other friendly country from whom we want treaty concessions. However, these new reports seem to indicate that our foreign policy is becoming anti-Israel altogether.

First, a new twist on a story reported earlier this morning. The United States sent hundreds of bunker busting bombs to a base on the Island of Diego Garcia, which serves as a staging ground for our operations in the Persian Gulf. The thought at first was that these were part of a build up for an attack on Iran. However, after the size and composition of the shipment was revealed it seemed unlikely that the bombs were intended for that purpose.

Then, it broke that the shipment was, in fact, diverted from it’s intended destination: Israel. It seems that since Obama took office he’s been holding up several weapons transfers that were supposed to take place by now.

Under the plan, the U.S. military was to have stored 195 BLU-110 and 192 BLU-117 munitions in unspecified air force bases in Israel. The U.S. military uses four Israeli bases for the storage of about $400 million worth of pre-positioned equipment meant for use by either Washington or Jerusalem in any regional war.

The decision to divert the BLU munitions was taken amid the crisis between Israel and the United States over planned construction of Jewish homes in Jerusalem. The administration, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has warned that Washington could reduce military aid to Israel because of its construction policy.

So this is an informal military embargo. A very disturbing revelation regarding one of our closest allies. But these bombs are just the latest.

Since taking office, Obama has refused to approve any major Israeli requests for U.S. weapons platforms or advanced systems. Officials said this included proposed Israeli procurement of AH-64D Apache attack helicopters

, refueling systems, advanced munitions and data on a stealth variant of the F-15E.

Next up is a new story that we may be extended a military umbrella over the Palestinians.

The general denied he had as yet formally asked for the Palestinian territories to be transferred to his command, but added: “In fact, staff members at various times have discussed asking for the Palestinian territories to be added to CENTCOM’s turf.” DEBKAfile‘s military sources explain that, if approved, this step would be tantamount to providing the Palestinians with an American military umbrella against Israel.

Not only are we forming some kind of military concern over Palestine, but Obama has also added a high level diplomatic boycott.

The Israeli government was informed that until [the Obama Administrations] conditions were met, its ministers would not be received in Washington by high-level American officials – a virtual boycott…

So, we’ll meet with Iran, Venezuela and any other third world anti-American state without pre-condition, but not with our closest ally? Obama is either not cut out for this, or he’s lost his mind.

Obama blocks delivery of bunker-busters to Israel

WASHINGTON — The United States has diverted a shipment of bunker-busters designated for Israel.   ShareThis

Officials said the U.S. military was ordered to divert a shipment of smart bunker-buster bombs from Israel to a military base in Diego Garcia. They said the shipment of 387 smart munitions had been slated to join pre-positioned U.S. military equipment in Israel Air Force bases.”This was a political decision,” an official said.

In 2008, the United States approved an Israeli request for bunker-busters capable of destroying underground facilities, including Iranian nuclear weapons sites. Officials said delivery of the weapons was held up by the administration of President Barack Obama.

Since taking office, Obama has refused to approve any major Israeli requests for U.S. weapons platforms or advanced systems. Officials said this included proposed Israeli procurement of AH-64D Apache attack helicopters, refueling systems, advanced munitions and data on a stealth variant of the F-15E.

“All signs indicate that this will continue in 2010,” a congressional source familiar with the Israeli military requests said. “This is really an embargo, but nobody talks about it publicly.”

    • Israel is certainly one of our closest allies on a number of security issues. One could make an argument that Britain or Canada are also very strong allies. It’s not just that Israel is a close ally, but that they are an important ally. Because of their location and proximity to some of greatest security threats to the United States, as well as their status as one of very few democracies and pro-western governments in the region, perhaps the only one outside of Lebanon, Israel is crucial to American interests.

The Israelis have not “gamed our system,” if anything they have shown tremendous restraint and historically made great concessions at the request of the United States. Their counter-terrorism activities are of crucial importance to our global security; Hamas is not just an Israeli problem, after all.

But, even more basic than all of that is the fact that Israel is the right ally. Their form of government, their values, their prosperity: the whole region would be better off to imitate Israel. And, since that’s become a major focus of our mission in Iraq (the spread of peaceful, democratic values), few allies seem more necessary to the ongoing interests of the American people than Israel.

    • I recently atentded the Deeper Level 2012 UNconference and there are only two words to describe it Supernatural Phenomenon . God spoke to me in such a powerful way, a gift I had not focused on since I was a child (I’m 29) was brought to my attention in a way I had never seen before. I have perfect pitch and can get on the piano and pretty much play the basics of what I hear. I took it for granted and buried my talent.. God told me What are you doing here?? and by the end of the conference I felt a fresh anointing over my hands. I came home and today I got on the piano to play one of my favorite songs Jesus At The Center . I learned it and now I’m going to study the charts to perfect the gift God has given me! I can go and on, giving one testimony after another. Keep doing you Israel. I’m spreading the word to Southern California and supporting your ministry 100%. We need more worshipers like you and your family. Praying for you all always! May God overflow you only how He can! Jennifer Croce
