More People Carrying Guns Than Ever, Firearm Deaths Decline

Surprise! When more people carry guns, fewer people end up getting killed by them. Funny how when law abiding citizens even the playing field lives are saved. And that’s coming from MSNBC.

MSNBC also reported on an example of self-defense.

Waving a chromed semiautomatic pistol, the robber pushed into the building in the bustling Five Points neighborhood of Columbia, S.C., just before 11 p.m. on April 11, 2009. “Gimme what you got!” he yelled, his gun hand trembling.

Attorney Jim Corley was one of four people in the room, the lounge area of a 12-step recovery group’s meeting hall. “He said, ‘Give me your wallet,’” Corley recalled. “So I reached around to my back pocket and gave him what was there.”

What was there was a pistol and several bullets. Because he was carrying a weapon, he lived and his assailant did not.

That’s not to say that the reduction in violence in recent years has been because people are arming themselves more. But it is clear that the explosion of violence that is routinely predicted by groups like the Brady Campaign and Washington Ceasefire has not happened, and likely never will. We will always have to put up with these hoplophobes, but we won’t always have to put up with their policies, which the American people are clearly rejecting.
